25 years of Konstepidemin! +1

Saturday September 1 - we celebrate 25 years of Konstepidemin (though I've been there for 26, one year before we officially moved in). A big part of my life!

The whole Saturday is a massive Open Day with a 130 artist exhibition in the gallery, film, over 30 open studios, workshops for kids and others, happenings, music and so on. Camilla posted a few photos from her preparations here...

Welcome! I will keep the studio open but sneak out from time to time to see what else is going on. Here is the program...

Most welcome to come and celebrate with us! from 12:00 to 17:00

in Herman's studio

When you visit Herman Fogelin's studio, it takes a while as there are so many things to look at. And many things to talk about.

I went there to pick up the urn for the big show at Konstepidemin on Saturday. 65 of us artists there invited one fellow artist each to show a piece in the gallery. 130 artists, it will be crowded. Saturday  September 1 we celebrate 25 years at Konstepidemin with a massive Open House Day.

I invited Herman for the show, he was an early inspiration for me and I want to celebrate also that. He still is.

There is a pretty new book about his work, in Swedish only but with lots of colorful images. It can be bought directly at Lerverk craft gallery.

rabbit and rabbit in the green

There they are, Rabbit and Rabbit. Firmly put, will be keeping watch over the green. I am content with the result, and I hope the people who will live there will appreciate their space. They will move in next month, then we'll know if it works.

There are many other rabbits out there...

Platina jewellery gallery shows Ashes and Diamonds, a selection of Finnish jewellery artists, from August 30.

going to the other side

While working with the commission I've explored new places in my own city. Early morning bicycle ride over the bridge to Hisingen. The other side of the river is changing quickly. For good and for bad.

upmarket

This year I was not so much involved in organizing Upmarket, the annual outdoor craft fair here in Göteborg. So it was pure luxury to just walk around in the park and talk with people this time.

Embroidered portraits by Emelie Andersson, one of the talented students invited to show work.
Bronze looking earthenware by Carina Cresta.
Metal flowers by Lena Åberg.

Many more photos I took yesterday are in a KHVC facebook album....

last week's progress

Only hours of work until I and excellent bricklayer Erik are finished placing the mosaic piece in the Bjurslätt yard. It has been an intense week of finishing, loading, unloading, carrying, digging, placing, digging and more digging. But it starts to feel really good. Almost there.

I'm off to the final day of UPMARKET, to take loads of photos.

water and viola

This summer the water color museum in Skärhamn shows a Bill Viola exhibition, videos with water as a medium. A truly spiritual experience. So was having lunch in the restaurant by the sea.

There will be an interesting seminar September 7-8: Images in sacred rooms and the art of Bill Viola, read more (Swedish)...

And the village is a nice place for a walk in the sun.

fix and grout

To fix and grout is like copying a photo in a darkroom. You have an idea from the negative what it will look like, but will still be surprised by the result. It's so rewarding.

A new ceramic center opened this summer in Höganäs. There will be exhibitions, knowledge base and a permanent show with work from 45 south Swedish ceramic artists and potters.
